What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a system of three separate components that replace the entire tooth structure; this includes an implant post, an abutment, and a dental crown. The dental crown is custom-created for each patient to blend with surrounding teeth and function as an ordinary, healthy tooth.

The Implant Process

The process for getting a dental implant varies for each patient, depending on a variety of factors. This includes the current condition of the individual’s gums, the health of remaining teeth, or any other health needs of the particular patient. In most cases, the process follows the below steps:

Free Consultation

The implant process always begins with a free consultation. This allows our dentist to discuss needs or concerns with you directly and assess your oral health. We will conduct a CBCT scan of your mouth during this consultation to determine if any initial treatment is necessary before moving forward.

Preliminary Treatment

If problems are discovered during the consultation, we will first require that these conditions be addressed. This may include the treatment of gum disease, extraction of damaged teeth, or bone grafting to restore jawbone density.

Implant Placement

Once all concerns have been alleviated, we will schedule you for implant placement. This is the surgical portion of the procedure, which involves the placement of the implant post into the jawbone. This will be followed by between four or six months of healing before the restoration may be completed.

Implant Restoration

After healing, you will be scheduled to visit us again for your abutment and crown to be placed. Your crown will be designed to meet your expectations and preferences and will blend naturally with your smile. Upon completion, you will have a beautiful new smile that will last a lifetime!
